And?

Good message, TFX. But submitting a crappy text file to complain about a stolen stick file doesn't make things any better. I agree with you, but this is meant for the BBS, not for the Portal.
.
And besides, the movie has (after this movie was made) been transferred to Zhu Zhu. Not the greatest of solutions, but it suits me fine.

TFX responds:

First off, 99% of all Portal viewers don't go to the BBS, so if there's some grand point that needs to be made, this is the only way to make it. Everyone on the BBS pretty much knows this.

Secondly, this movie is several months old. The message is lost. I cannot be bitched at for this.

Pretty cool!

You know, this ain't half bad! I can tell this took you a long time; you did a good job of drawing H.S. Gohan and the SSJ2 transformation. Plus, you added the whole eye-roll thing, which I think is SO DAMN COOL. ^_^ In a portal where 80% of DBZ submissions are pure crap driven by talentless 14 y.o. DBZ freaks, this is pretty damn cool.
.
Course, this IS just the SSJ2 transformation, albiet a really cool one; it really lacks something before or after it to make it feel like a complete movie. Perhaps a lengthier movie could be fashioned around this? You've got the mad skillz down, now you just need the story.
.
At any rate, nice job. Let's see more of this, dammit! ^_^

MysticSonGohan responds:

Thanks. I will try to make a longer movie, with say, some action.

Odd little movie... I like it

Strange movie... but good. I particularly enjoyed that theme song - catchy. Interesting animation style too. Poor Nasty though... so wife-whipped... what a pity.

peterbernard responds:

Thanks, Compdude! John and I used to create dozens of cartoon characters and they all had their own theme songs. This one was one of my three favorites. We developed Nasty at Jumbo Pictures, which is now owned by Disney--pretty weird, huh?

Bua hah haa!

Hee hee hee!!!! Funny, funny stuff! *laughs wildly*
I LOVE Keeblur, I HATE Stamper for being an ass, and I LOVE you for doing this hilarious spoof. Great work.

moneybagsxp responds:

thanks, bro... yeah, I don't understand why stamper would leave and take his work with him, but whatever...
later!

Good movie, nice message.

More good work, Ben. Has anyone ever told you that your movies have a very "Jerry Brukheimer-ish" type quality to them? Your style of melodrama, operatic music, and bombs just really seems to scream The Rock, or Con Air, or Pearl Harbor. There's nothing wrong with that, I just kinda notice a similarity.
Good work with this movie. It has a good message, and a developed sense of genuine compassion. Frankly, I like this theme better than a crazed Stick-Slayer. ^_^ But, to each his own, right? Keep on shipping out them movies, Mr. Brukhei... I mean, Mr. Spurgin.

Ben-Spurgin responds:

Woohoo! Your review made my day! Jerry Bruckheimer's my favorite director, and to be compared to him like that sent a tingle down my spine! Glad to know I'm doing SOMETHING right!
The lords of karma shall remember you... ;)

Neato!

Hey, excellent job man. Sharp graphic style, excellent song choice, and an appropritatly Brukheimer-ish direction that gives it a definite turn-of-century feel. Definite 5 material and top-10 potential. Now, why you would want to base this all on a crappy, poorly-translated video game is the real mystery. I mean, yeah, the opening scene is good for spoofing, but I doubt a real story was ever intended for that game. Nor does it deserve one. You should've made a movie like this for the FF series, or Zelda, or some other story-rich series. Bottom line, good movie, bad game choice. But who am I to judge? All your movies are belong to us! ^_^

TFX responds:

Everyone asks me, "why Zero Wing?" And to them I reply, "I wanted to be original". Final Fantasy, Zelda, Mario, those have all been done over and over to death. Over in a far corner of obscurity we have a game that was totally neglected and laughed at because there were no high expectations for it.

I had high expectations . . . and I was disappointed. This is what _I_ was looking for.

Unoriginal creation.

Dude, all you did was take a sound file off Napster/UHF and put it on a slide show presentation with black-holes for mouth movement. Yeah, the sound's funny, but it's not your creation, and what IS isn't all that impressive. Sorry, but better luck next time :)

HackerZC responds:

You know what, I;m sick of hearing all this shit about "all you did" "all you did"! Enough of it already! If you dont like it then you go out there and do it your damn self. Oh and I just watched your ONLY MOVIE, and it sucked too.

Taking a first step

The song is beautiful, but since that's not your creation, what counts is the part you created. Now, I don't mean to rip on your emotions. If this is based out of real life, I truly feel sympathetic , unless you were a creep to the girl (boy?) :-). But, in my opinion you don't add too much to the song. Yeah, your message of a "love lost without reason" is there, but it's not really moving. Two reasons. First off, the movie comes off a little... narcissistic-sappy, kinda like saying, "boo hoo, woe is me for losing you, my life sucks now!" Ack. Maybe I've just never lost anyone dear, but I would say move on. And secondly, though it's been beaten into the ground by previous reviews, the graphics ARE a bit (read, a LOT) on the crappy side (that heart? UGH!!). Sorry, but it's hard to be moved by scrolling text. Maybe we've all been weaned on too many eye-candy movies, but a SINGLE FRAME of frame-style animation would have been appreciated. Nonetheless, you definetly get my Kudos for taking the leap into (what has to be) a previously uncharted genre of Newgrounds movies. I don't recall ever seeing a truly emotional movie about real LOVE before on Newgrounds before. Most "love" movies here just involve crude FDA humor... Way to go man. Maybe you don't have the best movie ever, but you made a valiant first brave step into uncharted Newground waters. Now take the second: improve the movie. Who knows? Maybe Newgrounds will become a place of love and understanding. Nah. Hey, better luck with love in the future! ^_^

qpid responds:

Your review is probably the most interesting that I read for this movie. Not many people will write a long review and list the good and the bad with advice, etc. Kudos for that. As I told just about everyone with a response, it was my first movie, and I made the movie basically AFTER this happened. Funny what motivates you to FINALLY learn something like this program. FLASH is hard to deal with, my I'm working on it and it is improving. I AM making another movie but the problems with my computer is making it difficult to deal with. (The sound card quits when I install FLASH. Takes a lot of restarts to MAKE it work.) The graphics... most has been done by hand. Except say.. the night sky when I had to fill it in with a color. But, like I said, it's getting better and HOPEFULLY it WILL be better. Practice, errors and mistakes, and patience. Anyways, there's lots I wanna say in response, but all in all, thanks for your review. Not to many HONEST reviews out there, know what I mean?

If I've unfairly judged your movie, please tell me. I make every effort to be objective and thoughtful.
